#230 - Continuous Confession and Repentance
Volume 1 - Prayers to Love God

Dear Father, I get it. I have a rebellious heart. Your Word says that the thoughts and intentions of our hearts are evil all the time. I used to think that couldn't be true. I am a good person. However, I learned that it is true. If I preach a wonderful sermon and it leads to the repentance and salvation of many, there is a part of me that wants the credit. If I serve the needy with compassion and generosity, there is a part of me that cries out "hey, look what I did." If I rescue people from injustice, there is a part of me that can become jealous or even annoyed when I hear of someone else getting credit for a good deed. "What about what I did?" Father, I believe that this side of eternity I will continue to have a voice inside of me that desires my own glory. It is my sinful nature. Therefore, I need to confess and repent of my rebellion every single day. Every single hour. Yes, Jesus Christ saved me from my rebellion. Yes, His shed blood covered all my rebellious thoughts past, present, and future. However, if I want a truly effective ministry on earth, I must acknowledge and repent of my rebellion each hour of the day. I must be aware of my tendency to glorify myself so that I can battle my evil desires through confession, prayer, humility, worship, and service. Please help me. Amen.
