#233 - I'm A Workaholic
Volume 1 - Prayers to Love God
Dear Father, I am a workaholic. I love work. 24/7. I love working late into the evening. I love getting up before dawn to get an early start on work. I love bringing work with me on family outings. I love checking a work email that comes in while I'm praying or reading Your Word. I love working on Sunday. Father, being a workaholic is not honorable. It is an obsession. It is an addiction. It is a distraction. Why do I work so hard? Father, I do this because I'm escaping my relationship responsibilities. It takes me away from time with You. It takes me away from loving and serving others. I do this because I imagine myself to be god. I can do all things, by my strength and intellect, if I just work hard enough and long enough. What I lack in supernatural power I attempt to make up for by continuous work. I can provide for myself and my family if I work endlessly. I don't need You. I can make a name for myself if I never pull myself away from work. I can achieve wonderful things and my name might be praised. Father, there is nothing good about being a workaholic. A man or woman of God understands their limitations and embraces them. A godly person understands their need to rest and to be rejuvenated. A godly person understands God and people come before driving ambition. A godly person doesn't work all day and all night to make a name for themselves. Forgive me for being a workaholic. Help me to rest and be still, knowing You have everything under control and that You are God and I am not. Amen.
