#71 - Fear of the Lord
Volume 1 - Prayers to Love God

Dear Father, You do not frighten people for the sake of pleasure. You do not bully people because You feel insecure. You don't take advantage of people because You want something You don't have and they stand in the way. You are a compassionate, loving, kind, generous, and merciful God. What does fear of the Lord mean then? Fear of the Lord is the acknowledgment by a human that You are God and the person is not. I fear You because I know You are holy, righteous, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, just, and sovereign, and I am none of these things. I am, therefore, accountable to You for my words and actions. Fear of the Lord is the understanding that You have the authority to evaluate my life and determine my appropriate eternal destiny. Those who do not fear You don't believe You will hold them accountable. They do as they please because they believe there will not be any eternal repercussions. They may think they can manipulate You and talk You into a pardon. They don't respect Your authority or Your power. Those who fear the Lord receive Your blessings because they do not challenge Your authority. Father, I want to fear You. I need to fear You. Help me to fear You, the God of incredible love. Amen.
