#127 - I Am Depressed
Volume 1 - Prayers to Love God
Dear Father, let me die. Take my life. I'm done. I give up. There is no hope. I'm imprisoned in misery and there is no key to the door. I feel worthless. I'm physically, emotionally, and spiritually exhausted. Father, take my life - please. Father, thank You for the comfort I have received as I reflected on who You are: - You are the inventor of love, compassion, grace, mercy, kindness, and empathy. You have been counseling people with depression throughout the centuries. The book of Psalms makes it clear that You empathize with human discouragement. There is no one better equipped than You to help me heal. - You are available by prayer 24/7. You invite me to share with You whatever is on my mind. You won't be outraged. You won't be hurt. You won't be offended. You won't become defensive. You won't punish me for anything I say (You know my thoughts and feelings anyway). You welcome transparency. - You are the all-powerful God who can do anything that is necessary to restore my hope. You are the great physician who knows all about serotonin and how to adjust it. You understand the benefits of diet, exercise, and sleep. You know about the seasons of life and how they impact us. You understand life-altering trauma and how to recover from it. You have watched the dynamics of millions of families and relationships. You understand the role rebellion from You can play in feelings of hopelessness (rebellion always leads to continuous disappointment). You are prepared to speak to me about my crisis through the reading of Your Word. You will orchestrate the right people to come into my life at just the right moment to lift my spirit, show me Your love, and give me a hand. - You want me to heal. You want to see a smile on my face. You want to delight me with recovery. You want to hear me sing again. You want my life to reflect the faith, courage, peace, and joy of Jesus Christ. You have lives for me to touch. You want me thinking about ministry. - This is personal between You and the evil one. You do not want Him to have victory in this battle for my life and ministry. - You care about my loved ones. They need me to be strong. They need me to heal. They need me to grow spiritually and emotionally so they can be encouraged themselves. Father, I feel confident I can overcome this depression knowing these truths about who You are. Let's get started. Father, forgive me of my rebellion. Protect me from making rash decisions in my despair. Help me to experience Your deep love for me. Help me to surrender my life to You. Create in me a testimony, through winning the battle with this depression, that will encourage others who are despairing. Amen.
