#225 - Goals
Volume 1 - Prayers to Love God

Dear Father, I want to set goals. I'm tired of living from day to day without a sense of direction. I am a creature of habit, doing the same things today that I did yesterday. I'll do the same things tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year. When my life is over, I will have accomplished nothing. However, I know You define an accomplished life as one where our character honors You. You are less interested in a list of achievements than You are interested in how much we display the fruits of the Spirit. Are we loving and kind when people are mean? Are we joyful when life is difficult? Do we have peace when storm clouds are on the horizon? Are we gentle when people want to pick a fight? Are we patient when people continually let us down? Do we show compassion to the poor and the needy? Do we surrender our lives to Your authority? Do we obey Your commands? Father, if these things are true about us, our lives are successful. We have accomplished what You desired for us. Father, help me to understand that at any moment in life Your goal for me is the growth of my character. Your goal for me is to be more like Your Son, Jesus Christ. Father, give me a calling and a career where I can display these character traits and advance the growth of Your Kingdom. Take me to the very next step. What do You want me to do today to serve and honor You by my character? That's the only goal I need. Amen.
