#28 - Assurance of Salvation - Part 2
Volume 1 - Prayers to Love God
Dear Father, a man invited friends over for dinner. His guests were appalled as they took their seats at the table. The drinking glasses were filthy on the inside. "Uh, no thank you. No drink for me," they all said. The man was confused. "Why won't they have a drink? I cleaned the outside of the glasses." Father, many people ask You for forgiveness of secondary sins. We ask for forgiveness for lying, cheating, swearing, jealousy, or being angry with someone. We believe we are in good standing with You. However, You will not drink from our glass because You see unconfessed rebellion in there. We continue to go through our days acting like You are irrelevant. We make plans without You. We make decisions without You. We don't ask You for help. We don't give You much consideration at all. We doubt Your goodness. We worship other gods. This is all the filth inside the glass. Father, assurance of salvation can come to us when we confess and repent of our rebellious hearts in the name of Jesus Christ. Assurance of salvation can come to us when we surrender our lives to You, living as though You are God and we are not. When we do this, we clean the inside of the glass. You are eager to drink from that. Father, don't let me be satisfied that I've asked for forgiveness for sins of word and deed when my heart still rebels from You. Lead me to the place where I seek forgiveness for my rebellion. I will know the assurance of my salvation. Amen.
