#37 - My Loved One Died Suddenly
Volume 1 - Prayers to Love God

Dear Father, my loved one died suddenly. What are You doing? Were You asleep? Why did You lash out at us? He or she was a good person. They were innocent. They deserved life. They had plans. They were making a difference in this world. Or, at least they could have. How am I supposed to live with this? I loved them and they loved me. They meant everything to me. I didn't have time to say goodbye to them. We had unfinished business. On top of it all, I've got to deal with autopsies? A trial? The knowledge they experienced terror in their last moments? I'm in shock and I'm furious with You. What kind of God would do this? I'm so angry with You. Father, thank You for human emotion. Thank You for letting me vent at You in my darkest hours of grief. You understand the pain of death. You watched Your Beloved Son die a painful death on the cross. It broke Your heart to see Him suffer. You have watched billions of people throughout history suffer through the grief of death. You have brought comfort across the ages. You brought people the hope of the resurrection. You had people bring meals to those who sobbed in tears. Father, I understand that death has come into this world because we dared to rebel against You. We thought we could be Your equal and live our lives without You. I ask for forgiveness for my rebellion from You. A truly humble man or woman knows that You are good, just, and right all the time and in all things. Such a person responds to horrific news, like the sudden death of a loved one, by saying: God is good. He gives and takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Please comfort today all who grieve this loss. Give us an abundance of Your kindness, grace, mercy, and compassion. Carry us through the ceremonies, the legalities, and the grief. May we one day share our testimonies of how good You were to us in our season of grief. May we now live with the understanding that You are good even when a loved one suddenly dies. Amen.
