#755 - Participating in a Marathon
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor

Dear Father, I am registered to participate in a marathon. 13.1 miles. 26.2 miles. Father, there are many good things about this. - I have overcome my fears. I didn't think I could do anything like this. Even though I might not be able to finish the race, I courageously tried my best anyway. - It is about discipline. I am training my body and my mind in preparation for the marathon. I am saying no to unhealthy food. I go out for a practice run when it's pouring rain or bone chilling cold outside. I'm training myself to overcome the human obsession with comfort. Father, the race will begin. Hundreds, if not thousands, will run ahead of me. I will be passed on the left and the right. I will not evaluate my performance based on those around me. I will keep going. As the kilometers pass by, I will wear down. In the final lengths of the marathon I will be on the verge of collapse. However, I will refuse to quit. I will refuse to collapse on the ground. I will hear the angels in heaven cheering me on. I am persevering. I am making it. I am doing it. I am building my character. I am making my heart strong for the adversities I must face in my life. There will be days when I just want to crawl into a hole and die. However, I will remember when I made it through the entire marathon. I will remember when I collapsed after the finish line. I will remember that You were there to cheer me on and carry me in Your arms until I recovered. Father, thank You for inspiring me for this marathon. Amen.
