#435 - I Need to Give Others Grace
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor

Dear Father, I hold grudges against people. I am bitter. People have done me wrong and I don't forget. I take names and numbers. I record dates and times. I keep a record of wrongs. I can quote offences against me like others can recite the lyrics to their favorite song. My love is conditioned on people treating me right. "If you mess with me, there will be hell to pay. By the way, I love you." Father, You call us to unconditional love. Grace. Unwarranted favor. People don't earn the right to our love. They receive it as a gift. No matter what they do or don't do to us. How can I hold a grudge against someone for a relatively minor offense when I expect You to forgive me for my rebellion? Father, grace doesn't need a request for forgiveness. Grace just forgives without being asked. Father, help me to love unconditionally. Help me to love someone just for the joy of pleasing you. Help me to understand that many people have no idea why they do and say what they do. How can I be bitter with their internal confusion? That is a reason for grace. Forgive me for all the times I have lacked grace. Help me to destroy all my records of the wrongs people have done to me. Father, You are working in people's lives. You are not done with them. Help me to remember that and to give them a break. Amen.
