#709 - I Hate Patriotism
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor
Dear Father, I hate patriotism. I wish I could take all these American flag wavers and silence them. Look at all the harm America has done in the world. We have abused and taken advantage of other cultures and nations. Slavery. We invade other countries and take control of them. We are a violent culture that willingly destroys the environment. Christians in our society are homophobic. Our nation needs to become less Christian. Our culture needs to incorporate other cultures and faiths from around the world. We need to mind our own business in foreign affairs. We need to let other nations lead because we have failed. Father, America has been the leading Christian nation in the world for over a century. During this time, America became the most powerful and influential nation on earth. Our nation has been generous, caring for millions of people in need around the world. Why is that? Genuine faith leads to a desire to serve people in need. Such a desire leads You to provide us with the resources to touch hurting people in faraway places. Historically, our country has had many people with genuine faith. Take away that faith and we lose our desire to help people in need. Take away our desire to help people in need, there is no reason for our nation to have influence. Father, if I claim to care about people in need, it makes no sense I want the most generous nation on earth to lose its influence. If my heart breaks for people in crisis around the world, it makes no sense that I want the Christian influence in the most generous nation on earth to diminish. Father, revive Your church in America. When You do, there will be an outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in our land. People will become more loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, and self-controlled. That is a recipe for societal prosperity. That is also a recipe for generosity to people all over the globe who need help. Amen.
