#727 - Considering a Run for Political Office - Part 2
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor

Dear Father, I believe there are some essential traits I must have if I'm going be a believer in public office. - I must first surrender my life to You. I cannot be my own god. I must make it a daily habit to inquire of the Lord and to ask for Your provision and protection in all things. I must be a man or woman of devoted prayer and Bible study. I cannot worship other gods and I cannot doubt Your character. - The Holy Spirit must be transforming my heart and soul, creating within me the fruit of love, joy, peace, gentleness, goodness, faith, integrity, honesty, perseverance, self-control, and patience. I have no business running for public office if my friends, family, and mentors do not see these traits in me. - Father, I must also have a passion for justice. I am to seek elected office to defend the poor, the downtrodden, the orphan, the widow, and those who are treated unjustly. I am to seek elected office with a heart for service to others, a heart willing to do whatever moral and legal things I can do to free people from the misery in their lives. - From my position in political office, I should encourage other believers and churches to make a difference in their communities by serving in the private sector. - Father, I must also have a God-given ability to negotiate, persuade, and build relationships with politicians from other parties without compromising the values You have given me. - I must have courage and resilience. I will be attacked. I will be falsely accused. I will be insulted. I will be branded. Father, I need to have the emotional stability to weather the nasty nature of political campaigns without resorting to the same kind of tactics. - Father, I need to talk about the policies I believe in and the good I see in my opponent. I must have a keen sense of values and principals, a plan to transform and revive our culture. With these things in mind, are You calling me to public office? Am I ready? I am asking You to answer these questions. If You are calling me to public office, please prepare my heart and mind. Amen.
