#339 - Hypocrisy
Volume 1 - Prayers to Love God

Dear Father, rebellion from God, self-centeredness, and hypocrisy are all linked. When I rebel from God, I am stating my belief that I am my own god. I am at the center of the universe. The world exists to serve me and cater to my every whim. I am to have no constraints on my behavior. I can do whatever I want when I want to do it. This necessitates that others do whatever I want them to do when I want them to do it. They are constrained and restricted to those activities that please me. Another person cannot refuse what I ask of him because they have conflicting interests or activities. They must be restricted from doing anything that makes them unavailable for me. Therefore, in pure self-centeredness, born of rebellion from God, I become a hypocrite. I have no constraints in my life but I expect everyone else to have constraints. Father, forgive me for being a hypocrite. I am a hypocrite because I am selfish. Forgive me for my selfishness. I am selfish because I have rebelled from You. I have decided to be my own god. Forgive me for my rebellion from You. Help me to surrender my life to You. You will become the center of my universe. I will put constraints on my own behavior so that my neighbor feels the boundless love of God. Amen.
