Prayers
#16 - I'm a Christian
Volume 1 - Prayers to Love God
Dear Father, when I'm asked to fill out an anonymous demographic survey, I circle the answer that I am a Christian. Most people believe Jesus Christ was a good teacher who talked about love and did wonderful things for people. People like to talk about Jesus the man. However, when I'm asked to share that I believe He was the Son of God who died on the cross for the sins of mankind, I become silent. I deny that I am a Christian. However, Jesus Christ claimed to be the Son of God and the only way of salvation. Father, if I am going to claim to be a Christian, I must believe what Jesus claimed to be true about Himself. If I don't believe in the deity of Jesus I am discrediting His own testimony about Himself. How can I call myself a Christian? Father, if I am going to be a Christian, I must believe He was the Son of God. I must believe He died on the cross for the sins of the world. If I believe He died on the cross for the sins of the world, I must believe He died for my sins. A true Christian confesses with his or her mouth that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior. A true Christian believes He told the truth that He would rise again from the dead on the third day. A true Christian strives to be like Jesus. A true Christian is obedient to the commands of Jesus Christ. A true Christian is an ambassador for Jesus Christ, doing whatever he or she can to honor and glorify Him. Father, help me to be a true Christian. If I'm not going to be true to Jesus Christ, I shouldn't be circling Christian on demographic surveys. Amen.
