#200 - I'm in College
Volume 1 - Prayers to Love God

Dear Father, I am in college. I am away from home. I'm no longer under the watchful eye of my parents. I can do what I want to do when I want to do it ("party."). I can be free of my parent's rules and I can be free of their beliefs. I can decide for myself what is right and what is wrong as my professors challenge everything my parents stood for. I have a tight group of friends (roommates, floormates, dormmates) whom I enjoy spending time with off-campus. I can be whoever I want to be. Father, college is perhaps the most dangerous time of life. There may not be any season of life where rebellion from You is more celebrated and advocated. College is about learning that we are our own gods. College is about doubting who You are. Who is God on college campuses across America? Someone to ignore, disregard, and despise. College is supposed to be about the preparation for our professional careers. However, college is truly about realigning our beliefs to conform to the value systems of the world. Mankind is in charge. Mankind is the final authority. Mankind defines right and wrong. Mankind protects and provides (government). Father, I am in a very dangerous spiritual place being at college. Am I going to position my heart for an adult life of rebellion? Am I going to surrender to You as my God and be willing to face great persecution for that? Father, I am smart enough to know that I cannot be my own god. I am not God. You are. I'd rather not position myself in a place where You need to discipline or punish me through hardship to remind me that You are the only true God. Now is the time of surrender. Now is the time of repentance. Father, rescue me from the deceitfulness of college. Make me a man or woman after Your own heart. Amen.
