#460 - I Am Cynical
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor

Dear Father, I am cynical. I distrust the intentions of people. People are generally dishonest and deceitful. They will do anything to get ahead, including lying, cheating, and stealing. I don't believe what people say. I distrust the intentions that drive their behavior. Why am I so cynical? I know my own heart. I know how I think. I know that I deliberately deceive others. I know that I have hidden agendas that influence my actions. I know that I deceive myself every day. Father, how do I function in a world where most people are deceitful? I need to remember that You are sovereign. You are in control. You act through people to accomplish Your ends. You inspire those who don't know You to take actions that are a blessing to Your people. Father, if I am in alignment with Your will, the people I interact with will end up being cooperative, compliant, and authentic in their dealings with me. I will be able to trust them because I trust that You are executing Your will through them. Father, it is wisdom to know that people lack integrity. However, it is also wisdom to know that You achieve Your purposes not only through people of integrity but also through people who lack integrity. Father, nothing will give a person integrity like coming to faith in Jesus Christ and having the Holy Spirit come into their soul. Nothing can drive a person to come to faith in Christ like the compassionate and merciful love believers demonstrate in His name. Father, I may be cynical of people but I'm to interact with them, looking for signs You are working through them. I may be cynical of people but I am to love them anyway. Help me to do so. Amen.
