Volume 1 - Prayers to Love God

Dear Father, I am addicted to cigarettes. Nicotine. I smoke a pack a day, costing me around $ 50 a week, $ 2,600 a year. My hair, clothes, drapes, sofa, and carpets in the house smell like smoke. Esophageal, mouth, throat, bladder, bowel, pancreatic, kidney, and larynx cancers. Heart disease. A weakened immune system. Pneumonia. Decreased bone density. Blindness in old age. Cataracts. Macular degeneration. Lower sperm count. Impotence. Early menopause. Death. Other than that, smoking is wonderful. Father, my parents smoked when I was a child. In fact, my father gave me my first cigarette. I took up smoking because I wanted to fit in with the kids at school. I took up smoking because I wanted to be rebellious. I took up smoking because I wanted to look like a risk taker. Damn the surgeon general warnings, full speed ahead to cancer. I took up smoking because it made me feel like an adult. I turned to cigarettes to calm my nerves when I was anxious. Now, my body is wasting away. Father, I need to quit but I'm having trouble stopping. The cigarettes have power over me. I am a slave to them. The first thing I need to do is to address my spiritual life. I am a rebel from You. I like to be my own god. I doubt Your character. I worship other gods. This makes me a slave to them and denies me access to You, the only one who has the power to rescue me. Please forgive me of my rebellion. Help me surrender to You. I want to take the teeth away from the cigarettes, starving them of their power because I deny they are a god in my life. Father, I am confident that with You on the throne of my life I can stop smoking. I am confident that You can begin to heal my body. However, my spirit needs to be healed before my body. I ask You to heal my spirit today. Amen.
