#398 - Bless My Wedding Anniversary
Volume 1 - Prayers to Love God

Dear Father, today is my wedding anniversary. Father, I have learned: - True love is not a feeling. True love is a choice. A commitment. I love being devoted and faithful to my spouse more than I love my spouse. - True love is proven in adversity. It remains faithful to the marriage commitment. - True love is proven through the changes of life. It remains faithful to the marriage commitment. - True love is proven when the feelings and "butterflies" subside. It remains faithful to the marriage commitment. A wedding anniversary is a celebration of commitment. It is a celebration of devotion and faithfulness. As the years pass, it becomes more and more likely that a couple has experienced and overcome adversity. Wedding anniversaries, a celebration of commitment that remains strong throughout the storms of life, become more wonderful each passing year. Father, there are couples who have been married thirty, forty, fifty, or maybe sixty years and they hate one another. They stay married for the kids. Father, I don't want my marriage to be one where we hate each other. I want our marriage to be one where we are united in Christ, two best friends sharing our advancing years together. However, there is something to be said for even bad marriages that keep going - somewhere, deep in their hearts, the couple loves commitment and devotion. They understand that love is a choice. Father, please bless our wedding anniversary today. May both of us enjoy it immensely. May we celebrate what You love the most about it - faithfulness. Unconditional love. No matter what we do or say that annoys each other, we refuse to break the commitment we made to You and to each other. Amen.
