#158 - I'm a Victim of Terrorism
Volume 1 - Prayers to Love God
Dear Father, there I was walking on a crowded sidewalk. Explosion. I'm suddenly yards away lying on the asphalt face down. My muscles and bones throbbing. My ears are ringing. As I began to wake out of a stupor, I saw the gray smoke, trash blowing in the breeze, smoldering small fires, destruction of buildings, and bodies scattered around me. The screaming. I could barely muster the whisper "help me". Father, why? Why didn't You prevent this? You are God, right? You can do anything at any time. Were You asleep? Didn't You care about all the innocent lives? Father, humans are rebellious from You. We demand that we have the right to define what is right and wrong. We want our free will. We don't want You telling us what we should or shouldn't do. We certainly don't want You forcing us to do something or to prevent us from doing something else. However, we expect You to stop others from doing what they want to do. We expect You to force other people to do what they don't want to do. We can't have it both ways. If You stop the terrorist from blowing up this public market, You should stop me when someone prays that I don't do something. Father, You have told us to obey You. Your commands are simple - love You and love others. Had the terrorist obeyed You, he or she wouldn't have blown up an open-air market. Father, help me recover from my physical injuries from this attack. Help me recover from the emotional trauma. I ask You to also bless the other victims and their loved ones. However, help me to remember this spiritual lesson. It is because we disobey Your command to love You with all our heart, soul, and mind and to love our neighbors as ourselves that us little gods end up blowing up one another. Amen.
