#204 - Get a Masters/Doctorate Degree?

Dear Father, should I get a masters or doctorate degree? What is the purpose? What is the goal? To get a serious education? To get a promotion at work and rise through the company? To get a better high-paying job with another firm in the industry? To complete the required education for my chosen field? To change careers? To experience a great personal accomplishment? To become an expert and to build my credibility? These are all good reasons for the pursuit of a master's or doctorate degree. However, the number one motivation to get an advanced degree is because You want me to. Father, I will spend a great deal of time commuting to class, attending lectures, and doing the work at home. I will be investing a great deal of either my money or somebody else's money. My time and money belong to You. Maybe You want me to serve people in need. Maybe You want me to increase my knowledge and understanding by serving the heartbroken and learning the hardship of life. Maybe You want me to spend time with a loved one who won't be alive when I graduate. Maybe You are going to call me into an entirely different field and the education I am to receive will be useless. Father, it takes good character to earn a masters or doctorate degree. Therefore, the pursuit of any advanced degree will be good for growth. However, I don't want to waste Your time and money. I don't want to go down a path other than the one You want me to go down. Father, please speak to me - please guide me. Do You want me to get a masters or doctorate degree? If so, please give me the ability, the time, and the money to finish it with excellence. If not, please lead me to another place You want me to go. Amen.
